scoring a winning goal at early match, really bring a meaningfull
effort by Honda to give first win for Japan team.
The gifted playmaker did not see much action in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, making just three appearances, but since moving from Dutch side VVV Venlo to CSKA Moscow in the January transfer window, he has been the subject of rave reviews - particularly for his efforts in the Champions League - and coach Takeshi Okada is coming under increasing pressure to find a spot for him.
Some in Japan think he is too much of an individualist who puts his own interests above those of the team, but Honda offers this defence. "In Europe I'm encouraged to go for goal more, while the Japanese tell me to defend," he claims.
Honda began playing for the Nagoya Grampus first team while still attending high school. He left his homeland in 2008 to join Netherlands outfit Venlo, where fans christened him Keizer Keisuke (Emperor Keisuke) for his free-kick prowess and the ferocity of his shooting in open play.
